REM

Research Exploitation Manager (REM) was developed for Dstl (Naval Systems), a part of the UK MOD, to demonstrate the feasibility of applying roadmapping techniques to assist the Director Equipment Capability (Above Water Effects) (DEC(AWE)) in the management of his research portfolio.

REM is a stand alone desktop database application that uses MS Access™ to store and trace the relationships between shortfalls in current or planned future capability, the concepts which offer potential solutions to these shortfalls, the research which is directed at these solutions and the equipment programmes which actually exploit the research and provide the capability. In addition, REM provides a suite of graphical visualisation facilities which present the underlying information as GANTT charts or relationship diagrams.

REM has been in use since 2002, and its underlying philosophy has been incorporated into a Web based roadmapping system which is now being deployed across the UK MOD.
